Amazon = Amazing

Amy and I just returned from a week long trip to visit Amy's Parents in Santarem, Brazil. The most amazing part of Brazil for me was seeing the Amazon River. I've seen rivers before, even the mighty Mississippi, but nothing compares to the Amazon River. The best comparison I can make is going to a lake like Orchard Lake or Cass Lake and then going to the shores of Lake Michigan, there is absoultely no comparison. Cass Lake makes Lake Michigan or Lake Superior look like an ocean, the same was true of the Amazon River. The city we were visiting is right on the banks where a tributary of the Amazon joins with the Amazon and just a few miles down river the Amazon River stretches 30 miles from bank to bank. It was even more humbling as Amy and I sat on a "speed boat" the size of a large aluminum row boat for 90 minutes passing other much larger boats heading out to the Atlantic Ocean and other places. Again, nature reminded me of God the creator. Not only did God speak creation into existence, he entered into creation by sending Christ to save you and me! What an awesome thought while enjoying his vast creativity on the Amazon!

I need you help!

Do you have a favorite quote from church history, a former (or current) pastor, something you heard on Christian Radio, anything? If you would like to share a quote or 50 quotes please add them in the comment section of the post.

Oneof my favorite quotes is from Martin Luther.

Weir Sein Petteler hoc est verum.

Its a mix of German and Latin...We are beggars and this is truth!

Merry Christmas Eve & Christmas

Observations from Christmas Eve Service:

I noticed during John's Christmas reading to the kids that it wasn't just for the kids. Even though the children were picked to open the presents, you could look around and see the adults on the edge of their seat waiting to see what would be in the next box. This got me thinking about Kids and Christmas. Christmas is seen as a a holiday for children, parents sit around as children open presents, A Charlie Brown Christmas is a cartoon definitely for kids. But, in reality Christmas is for everyone children and adults as evidenced at the Christmas Eve service with adults sitting on the edge of their seats.

Need your Comments...

A few posts underneath this one I asked for your input on the direction of this blog, I can't go the places you want to go if you don't tell me where you'd like to go. So, help me help you...:)

Merry Christmas Eve Eve

This morning was the Sunday School Christmas program. It is interesting to watch children on stage. They really don't care how they look up there. They can forget lines, be in the wrong spot, or whatever, yet they still smile and enjoy being up there. This makes me wonder, when does it all change, when do people become aware of being in front of people and the feeling of embarassment surface? Just some food for thought. I'll write more tomorrow.

Lots 'O Snow

You probably already know, but church was cancelled this Sunday do to the Sever Winter Storm. Isn't it funny how the news makes such a huge deal about Winter weather? Seriously? this is Michigan right, shouldn't we expect snow and the like. Eitherr way I hope you were able to spend time on the Lord's Day to thank God for his wonderful creation. I'm not sure about the church schedule with this postponement. See you at the Ebenezer Christmas party this Thursday!
